Masking before the repair
Cover the floor with a tarp or painter's drop cloth. Any furniture can be covered with painter's plastic.
The Ceiling Patch
Cut out the damaged drywall in a square . Use furring strip pieces to bridge the existing drywall with the patch. Put screws into both sides of the seams every 6 inches.
Start by taping the seams in. Then cover any screws and corner tapes. Second coat feathering out wider. Finish coat by coating the whole patch, blending into the existing drywall board. When dry, sand and touch up.
