Ceiling Patch Teqniques and tricks
Ceiling Patch California Style
The drywall pictured is a California drywall patch. Instead of buying the patch kits from the hardware store, next time you have a ceiling or wall patch to do, try this. Cut the piece 4 inches bigger in both width and length. Score the front side of the drywall, marking the piece you need in the center. Now bend back each side and peel off the extra drywall core, leaving an additional piece of drywall paper on all four sides. With joint compound, spackle coat the flaps with mud, making sure to leave a good amount on the exposed white gypsum core on each side. You can insert into the hole and wipe the dirt from under the flaps, as if you were wiping drywall tape. Let it dry and coat again, making sure to feather the mud in smoothly and flatly with a larger knife than the first time. Sand when dry, and you have a repair that is harder and more durable than any patch kit can offer.

Fixing holes in the wall or ceiling.
For small holes in drywall or plaster that are too large to hold joint compound. If the spackle just falls out of the hole when you try to fill it in. Take a piece of drywall tape and coat it with a thick layer of mud. Now, put the tape over the hole, with the layer of mud on the wall side. Wipe the tape smooth and flat with your drywall taping knife. Once dry, coat and blend in over the tape, and you have a perfect patch repair.

Ceiling Patch Repair Timesaver
Have a small patch of uneven plaster? Wrap a piece of drywall in Saran Wrap. Mix up a batch of setting-type Durabond and pile it on the wrapped board. Sandwich the board over the hole so that the Durabond fills it. Screw the board to the wall or ceiling. When the durabond sets, remove the screws and board, and you have a solid, filled-in surface that you can tape and blend in.
